One of the many unique features of the Calgary Corn Maze is that we grow pumpkins. We grow them in two locations (one smaller pumpkin patch at the maze and one 40 minutes east of Calgary). This helps ensure we have pumpkins available just in case the weather harms our crop in one of the locations. Our pumpkin patch at the maze is in full bloom in late August. One the first frost hits the pumpkin vines begin to wither.
We spend a lot of time and effort to grow you the perfect pumpkin. Just like any other pumpkin grown in central Alberta, we harvest our pumpkins from the field starting mid-September. We place them into greenhouse storage to avoid frost and to allow them to begin to ripen. We then place them back into the pumpkin patch for you to come and pick.
The Calgary Corn Maze feels it is important to support the local community. Our pumpkin season comes at a time of year to give thanks, and as such, we will be donating the proceeds from our 2010 pumpkin crop to the Calgary Mustard Seed. Pumpkin pricing starts at $.40 per pound. The average size of our pumpkins is typically about 18 lbs (a few pounds bigger on average than what you find in a store), with some growing over 50 lbs in size.
Pumpkin Picking from the patch takes place the first two weekends (Saturday and Sunday) in October. Standard admission rates apply and no advanced ticket purchases are necessary. Visitors who visit us during the weekdays during the first two weeks in October are also more than welcome to purchase their fall pumpkins from us.
